When I first tried to sell on Amazon, the advice was unanimous: get Helium 10. Everyone said it. So I signed up, saw the $129 a month, and quietly closed the tab. I was trying to start a business precisely because I did not have an extra $129 a month lying around, and here was the very first step asking for exactly that.
If you have hit the same wall, this is for you. Helium 10 is genuinely excellent, and this is not a hit piece. It is a practical look at how to get that level of Amazon research without the full subscription, including the option most people never hear about.
Why Helium 10 costs what it does
Helium 10 bundles product research, keyword tracking, listing optimization, a profit calculator and more into one suite. The paid plans run from around $39 a month for the lightest tier up to $129 and beyond for the plans with the data limits a serious seller actually needs. The free plan exists, but it is deliberately limited, enough to see the value, not enough to run on.
The free and cheap options
- The Helium 10 free plan plus a discount code will stretch you a long way when you are validating your first product.
- Jungle Scout or AMZScout are the usual rivals, and sometimes cheaper on promotion, though not dramatically so.
- Amazon’s own data, best seller ranks, the search bar autocomplete and the Brand Analytics reports if you are registered, costs nothing and is underrated for early research.
These work. The catch is that you usually end up needing more than one tool, and you are right back to stacking subscriptions. We added up what a full seller stack really costs in this post, and it is eye-watering.
The option most people miss: shared access
There is a third route. Shared-access bundles like ToolSuite include Helium 10 along with the other tools Amazon sellers reach for, the ad spy tools, the AI writers for listings, the design tools for images, all through one login for $29.95 a month, or $349.95 once for lifetime. Instead of $129 for one tool, you get that tool and dozens of others for a fraction of a single subscription.
It is not identical to owning your own Helium 10 account. It is shared access, so you do not get a private, portable profile, and you should treat it as a research and testing setup rather than the account you build a long-term client agency on. We lay out exactly how it works, and the downsides, in our ToolSuite review.
So which should you choose?
If Amazon is your whole business and Helium 10 is your daily driver, buy it directly and own it. If you are still validating products, or you need Helium 10 plus a handful of other tools and cannot justify a four-figure monthly software bill, shared access is the sensible way in. Start there, prove the business works, then upgrade to your own account when the revenue supports it.
